Residency CabaneB, Switzerland, 2013

In 2013 I was invited to do a site-specific work in the CabaneB, in Bümpliz, Switzerland. Bümpliz is an area of Bern which is dominated by social housing and has an unusual high density of charity shops. My project for this space resulted in an installation of second hand lamps borrowed from these charity shops. These unwarranted lamps were juxtaposed with images of luxurious chandeliers painted directly onto the walls with light sensitive glass beads. Like ghostly alter egos, the chandeliers only came to shine as reflections in the light of the charity shop lamps which, having been made redundant, were brought back to life once more.
